Skinnarebo Golf – short history

sidor 18hals 03 800x500

June 1, 1989 is the start date for the Skinnarebo project, which was run by a group of enthusiasts. On the 26th of the same month, municipal building permits were obtained. Apparently, there was no municipal decision-making period of several years at that time. Björn Magunsson became the course architect.

Skinnarebo Golf Club was formed on June 20, 1990, with a board of 5 regular members and 2 deputies. The club's first chairman was Nils-Gustaf Thuresson. Initially, the club rented the course from the landowner.

The club became a full member of the Swedish Golf Association on August 23, 1990 and was given club number 285. The club was registered with the name "Skinnarebo Golf & Country Club". A Country Club with planned tennis courts, swimming pool, etc. never became a reality. This was simply because the economy did not allow this. Already during this first year, the club was able to offer training opportunities on a temporary driving range and also green card courses from the club's first PRO Trevor Hughes.

In 1996, the landowner went bankrupt. There was great concern among the members that they would lose their deposited money. But with the help of an extra payment of 1,100 kronor from all members and great help from the club's PRO Eddy Eriksson and the restaurateur John Gandrup, the club was able to acquire all the land and all the buildings at an executive auction on December 3, 1996. Now the club is the sole owner.

March 21, 2000, it was decided at the annual meeting to form Tabergsdalens Golf AB with the club as the sole owner of the company. The company currently rents the course from the club and has an agreement to maintain and improve the course. The course is kept in perfect condition by the very skilled course staff. The formation of a company meant, among other things, the right to VAT deductions.

In the late 90s and early 2000s, interest in golf decreased in Sweden. This was also noticeable in our club. From having about 1300 members, the number dropped to about 800. This of course had major financial consequences. A necessary renovation of the restaurant in 2005 also contributed to a major financial crisis for the club. But once again, our PRO and members stepped up and with fantastic work by the board and not least its chairman, this crisis was also overcome. In connection with this, it was decided at the 2009 annual meeting to switch from member contributions to playing rights.

Thanks to a good economy today and a fantastically well-maintained course, the number of members has now increased from about 700 at the beginning of 2013 to over 1200 in the summer of 2014. Part of this increase can be attributed to the investment being made this summer on juniors. Another reason is increased green fee income on both the 18-hole course and the Pay-and-play course. For the club, it has always been important to be able to take care of its guests. That is why for a few years now there has been a top-notch equipped caravan / motorhome parking lot and a few months ago 4 well-equipped rental cabins were inaugurated. The number of green fee guests shows that our course is popular. From the start of the season this year until mid-July, we have had just over 2,550 guests on the 18-hole course and no less than just over 3,700 guests on the short-hole course.

At Skinnarebo, something new happens every year so that our members and guests can enjoy themselves and get the most out of their golf game.
